Homeland Information
Bophuthatswana was one of the four so-called "independent" homelands having been granted independence by South Africa in 1977. However, this independence was not recognized by any country in the world.
Bophuthatswana was a relatively large territory dispersed across the former provinces Transvaal, Cape Province and Orange Free State.
It ceased to exist as a political entity on 27. April 1994 and has been incorporated into South Africa.
Its flag and license plates are no longer in use.
